Keep wildlife away from communities.

After several reports were made regarding elephants venturing into the communities to feed. South African National Parks, the Mpumalanga Parks and Tourism Agency, took it upon themselves to start a Kruger National Park fence assessment from Numbi Gate alongside communities close to the park up to Matsulu
According to SANParks this was done not only because the elephants are venturing into the communities to feed but also due to the fact that they are beginning to cause fear that wild animals may damage crops, injure community members, damage to property and attacking livestock.
Observations made by a team of scientists and conservation officials state that "there is a need to send technical teams to this area to finalise the scope of work and have a contractor on site from April 2024.
Discussions with communities and key stakeholders are in the process of co-developing the building program and construction. The intent to facilitate dialogue and guidance as well as buy in to safeguard the fence from being vandalised is being arranged with communities and stakeholders.
