Is Table Mountain all that great or did I have a bad experience?

By Entle Mcasi

Well, let's recount the events of that day. On the 26 of December 2022, my mom decided to take us to Table Mountain, by us I mean me, my little brother, my cousin, and her brother.

She drove to town and when we got there we had to uber to the mountain because my mother does not like driving up steep roads. The appropriate Phrase would be she is scared, but I'm being nice.

Back to the story, there was traffic on the way obviously but we got there. The lower part of the mountain is honestly just basic with a nice view.

The first problem is there's no guide to show you where to go when you first get there, we took our arrival pictures and walked around. We got tired of walking and finally released we had to queue to buy tickets for the cable car. Lucky for students because you get a discount but you have to show proof that you are a student.

After purchasing the tickets, we had to queue for the cable car, mind you we hadn't eaten restaurants are up the mountain. We were in the queue for quite some time, and when we finally got to the upper part of the mountain, first of all, the view was beautiful. The second problem we had to split up, my cousin's brother stood in the queue since it was too long.

We walked around enjoying the view, the ocean below looked beautiful and calm. There's even a table with a very detailed compass, some people choose to hike up the mountain and take the cable car to go down. Now back to issue number

three food.

They were not bluffing when they said Table Mountain is a tourist attraction, the view from up there is beautiful which would attract anyone who likes nature. It comes with a cost because tourists are not familiar with South African prices but when they get the chance to visit other places they will realize that eating at the restaurants at Table Mountain is more expensive than eating at any other

restaurant.

It's only restaurants that are expensive, shops to buy snacks are also expensive, I remember when we were leaving this other guy was complaining about how ridiculous a small package of lay's costs. Since we didn't feel like wasting any more money we only bought drinks that were not cheap. Then we went to the queue and just left.

The sun was hot, but when we think about it all there is to do is walk around and take pictures there are no fun activities whatsoever.

The other struggle was getting transport to take us back to town, now that's nobody's fault. It's hard to get an uber later in the day but we managed and we went to eat somewhere else.

From my observations, I feel like it's not worth it especially if you want to go somewhere to view the whole of Cape Town but it's great for tourists, I just wouldn't recommend it to locals who can't afford. Those who can, are more than welcome to go enjoy themselves.
